BANDUNG, UNIKOM — As part of its academic tradition, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of UNIKOM started the semester by inviting practitioners and academics to share their insights and experiences with students. On Thursday, October 1, 2026, FISIP UNIKOM welcomed the Mayor of West Jakarta, Dr. Hj. Iin Mutmainnah, S.Sos., M.Si., as a guest speaker for a public lecture entitled “Government Collaboration, Global Diplomacy, and Communication in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.” Held at the Miracle Auditorium on the 4th floor of UNIKOM Campus I, the event was attended by FISIP UNIKOM students.
The arrival of Dr. Hj. Iin Mutmainnah, S.Sos., M.Si., was welcomed by Prof. 3 Prof. HC. Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, M.T. (UNIKOM Rector), accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Agus Riyanto, S.T., M.T., CSBA. (Vice Rector II for Resources), Prof. Dr. Hj. Dewi Kurniasih, S.IP., M.Si. (Dean of FISIP UNIKOM), and the Heads of FISIP UNIKOM’s study programs, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Manap Solihat, Drs., M.Si. (Head of the Communication Science Study Program), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nia Karniawati, S.IP., M.Si. (Head of the Government Science Study Program), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dewi Triwahyuni, S.IP., M.Si. (Head of the International Relations Study Program). The presence of UNIKOM’s leaders also emphasized the university’s commitment to strengthening experience-based learning and connections between the academic world and government practice.
In an interview, Prof. Dr. Hj. Dewi Kurniasih, S.IP., M.Si., explained that the public lecture is part of FISIP UNIKOM’s academic tradition of regularly inviting government practitioners and academics at the beginning of the academic year. She believes this tradition provides students with an opportunity to gain firsthand perspectives from professionals in their respective fields. “FISIP UNIKOM has three study programs, including Government Science, Communication Science, and International Relations. Therefore, we strive to present speakers with relevant experience and competencies in these three fields,” she said.
Prof. Dewi expressed her pride that FISIP UNIKOM had the opportunity to invite the Mayor of West Jakarta as a guest speaker for the public lecture in the 2026/2027 academic year. She considered Dr. Hj. Iin Mutmainnah’s experience in managing regional government to be highly relevant to the topic, particularly amid the rapid development of AI technology.
Furthermore, Prof. Dewi hopes that the public lecture will not only serve as a forum for delivering material but also as a space for dialogue, allowing students from the three study programs to gain both practical and critical perspectives. The event was designed to consist of a presentation followed by a Q&A session, allowing students to interact directly with the speaker. “Because this is a public lecture, it will last approximately three credit hours. The Mayor will deliver a presentation, followed by a discussion and Q&A session with students. Hopefully, this broad discussion can accommodate perspectives from Government Science, Communication Science, and International Relations,” she added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Hj. Iin Mutmainnah, S.Sos., M.Si., expressed her appreciation for FISIP UNIKOM’s invitation to attend and share her experiences at the lecture. She also expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to engage directly with students regarding the dynamics of government and regional issues. “This is my first time attending FISIP UNIKOM, and it is a very interesting opportunity to share my regional experiences with students. I hope my presence will not only inspire the students but also provide a space for me to hear their input, suggestions, responses, and perspectives on how the government currently operates,” she said.
She believes that interactions between the government and universities need to be continuously developed, as both have complementary experiences and perspectives. Students should not only be recipients of knowledge but also contribute ideas and perspectives on various emerging government issues in society.
Dr. Iin hopes that collaboration between the West Jakarta City Government and FISIP UNIKOM will continue through academic activities and student development programs. She also invited FISIP UNIKOM faculty members to visit West Jakarta and observe the dynamics of government and the characteristics of the region more closely. “West Jakarta has much to share and discuss. We can exchange knowledge and experiences, and we can also solicit input from students when carrying out various activities. We want to create a space for sharing knowledge and stories between the government and the academic world,” she concluded.
The public lecture provided an opportunity for students to understand that developments in government, diplomacy, and communication are closely linked to technological change. The advent of AI brings new opportunities and challenges, requiring students to develop academic, communication, and collaboration skills, as well as an understanding of the dynamics of government and society.
Through this meeting between government practitioners and academics, FISIP UNIKOM continues to strengthen learning that is not only theory-oriented but also provides real-world experiences in government practice, public communication, and relationships among various stakeholders amid digital transformation.
